Costs

Dr Hart on surgical costs:

  • Having private insurance is recommended for this procedure as additional costs may be incurred (ICU admission, blood and pathology tests, other specialist consultation while an inpatient, etc).
  • If patients are seeking out insurance, ask potential providers to insure for “gender affirmation surgery”. This is not a cosmetic procedure.
  • As this operation is not available through the public health system, patients can access their superannuation. The ATO website and superannuation funds help navigate this for patients.
  • The below costs are total for Dr Hart and his assistant. The anaesthetist will send a separate invoice. Medicare and private insurance will refund some of the amount. Once a patient has decided what procedure they would like, the reception staff will give them a fully itemised quote. It is asked that accounts are settled at least 7 days before the operation.
  • In the event that a patient requires a straight-forward, functional revision procedure post- operatively (e.g. urethroplasty, vaginal dilation, cystoscopy or EUA), there will be no charge for the surgeon (anaesthetist and hospital may have a fee).
  • Peritoneal
    • Pull-Through Vaginoplasty - $25,000
    • Penile Inversion Vaginoplasty - $17,000
    • Labiaplasty - $13,000
    • Revision Peritoneal Vaginoplasty - $17,000
